Band of Brothers

For this review I thought I would review my first miniseries. The one I decided to start with is Band of Brothers. Before I saw Band of Brothers I've seen war movies, but this miniseries took those movies and beat a good junk of them. It wasn't better than all the war films, but it was very close.

Band of Brothers is the true story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in WWII Europe. It follows Easy Company from training to the end of the war. The miniseries premiered on HBO which means they were allowed to show the war violence and gore of war; and executive produced by Tom Hanks and by Steven Spielberg.

Band of Brothers has many known actors such as: Damien Lewis, who is in the series Homeland, Scott Grimes, who is in the series American Dad, Ron Livingston, who has been in films like Swingers and Office Space, Donnie Wahlberg, who is in the series Blue Bloods, and Michael Cudlitz, who was in the series Southland. These are just to name a few of the known actors in this miniseries.

The one thing that made this series very interesting, other than the violence/gore, is that in the beginning of each episode they have parts of interviews of the actual live soldiers of Easy Company. Not only do you get a brief viewing of what these brave men went through, you hear it from them as well. For me it just added an extra mentality to the series. Actually seeing these men just makes the series that much better, and more real.

In the end, if you can handle massive amounts of war violence/gore, and you want a really awesome war series, Band of Brothers is the miniseries for you. My rating is if you can handle it, see this series as soon as you possibly can; it will give you more respect for our armed service men and women past, present, and future.

The Boondock Saints

This review is on a movie that I believe became an instant classic. The film I am talking about is the film, The Boondock Saints. The Boondock Saints is plain and simple a great action film. It meets all the requirements: great action/violence/gore, the acting is superb, and most importantly it has a story that you can get into. The film is about two brothers who believe they are on a mission from God to kill the people who are evil, like the mob. The people who do bad things, and get off because they have a high priced lawyer.

The action scenes are really cool, but the other thing that separates this film from other action films, other than the story, is the comical moments. This clip is an example of one of those comical moments. I have to warn you that there is a lot of pervasive language, and I hope you don't love cats. I could be a really sick person, but I laugh every time I watch that scene and I can't help it. Not everyone will like that scene, and that is the only time they do that, but as you can see they aren't afraid on how far they push their film.

The acting is very good as well, and I expected that once I saw some of the actors in the film. Playing the two brothers are Sean Patrick Flanery, who has been in films like Powder and Saw The Final Chapter, and Norman Reedus, who is currently in the TV series The Walking Dead. You then have Willem Dafoe, who has been films like Spider-Man and Finding Nemo, and finally Billy Connolly, who has been in films Brave and The Last Samurai.

Now one of the most important aspects that make this film a classic is the story. It is such an interesting concept that I don't believe it has ever been done before. In the end, if you like really great R rated action films you will love this one. My rating is that most people should see this as soon as you can.

Arrow

I'm really sorry for not doing a review in almost a month, but I'm going to review the show Arrow on the CW. Arrow is a show about the origins of the superhero The Green Arrow/Oliver Queen. Coming this fall they will be going into their third season, and I can't be more excited.

When this show first premiered two years ago I didn't know what to expect because I knew very little of Green Arrow before this show. I was thinking it was going to be another Smallville, which isn't a bad thing, but was I wrong. Compared to Smallville this show is a lot more action packed, and more dramatic. They do have their comedic moments, but this show is a lot darker than most. In all honesty I like Green Arrow/Oliver Queen in this show than any other representation of him that I've seen. I believe that has to do with the acting.

Playing Oliver/Green Arrow is Stephen Amell, who has been in series like Private Practice and  Heartland. Oliver's mom Moira is played by Susanna Thompson, who has been in series like Once and Again and NCIS. Oliver's sister Thea is played by Willa Holland, who has been in the show Gossip Girl and the movie Tiger Eyes. The rest of the cast includes: Katie Cassidy, who has been in films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Click, David Ramsey, who has been in series like Dexter and Blue Bloods, Paul Blackthorne, who has been in series like ER and 24, Emily Bett Rickards, who has been in films like Flicka: Country Pride and Dakota's Summer, and finally Manu Bennett, who has been in the show Spartacus and the movies The Hobbit.

Now there are other cast members, but these are the ones you need to know for the first season. I didn't name them all, but there are a lot of characters in this show that play an important role. As I mentioned earlier this show is action packed, and it is really cool action. Here is a fight scene from the pilot that I think shows you exactly what I mean.

In the end, I highly recommend this show to any comic book or superhero fan. They don't make too many of these shows, and you should watch this one for as long as it is on. My rating is that you should watch this show as soon as you can if you like great action and dramatic TV series. You will not regret it.
